American Express Ventures (“Amex Ventures”) is the corporate venture capital arm of American Express passionate about early-stage (primarily Seed – Series B) investments across FinTech, commerce and enterprise software. With a global directive, Amex Ventures plays a key role in investing in groundbreaking startups with strategic relevance to American Express. The team also helps portfolio companies and startups to commercialize partnerships with American Express business units.
Amex Ventures has backed more than 100 category-defining founders in its 10+ year history. Notable investments include Biocatch, Blackbird Labs, Firework, Melio, Menlo Security, Plaid, Stripe, Toast and Wonder among others.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Amex Ventures, the Director Assistant will be responsible for partnering closely with the Amex Ventures leadership team by providing thought leadership, supporting strategy development, and handling the day-to-day operations for key processes including the team’s talent management, communications, budget management, and performance management. As a Chief of Staff to the SVP, the successful candidate will also handle strategic projects across the Ventures team and play a meaningful role in driving team culture.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic support on a broad range of initiatives and partner with the SVP and team to develop, drive, and deliver the enterprise strategy for Amex Ventures
- Act as a central point of contact for initiatives spearheaded by the SVP
- Lead various team initiatives including: onboarding new hires, training and development of existing team and new hires, and helping to drive a strong virtual/hybrid culture and community across the team
- Design and lead high quality presentations for key strategic topics
- Liaise and build strong Partnerships with Business Leaders, Colleague team members, external contacts, and other relevant partners to ensure alignment, and execution of the team’s overall priorities
- Lead leadership team meetings and strategic planning sessions, and the overall budgeting and forecasting process
Qualifications:
- The role is a multi-faceted one and requires analytical, strategy, and consultative skills
- Extensive experience in project management and change management including ability to multi-task and handle shifting priorities with time-sensitive deadlines in a complex, fast-paced environment
- Exceptional qualitative and quantitative problem-solving skills (issue identification, problem structuring, analysis, development of recommendations)
- Exemplary positive attitude & interpersonal skills, with a consistent record in successfully building, maintaining, and leveraging relationships with senior management at all levels within the organization
- Be a highly motivated self-starter who can drive results and get things done in a self-directed manner, with excellent organizational skills and careful attention to detail
- Have exemplary written and verbal communication skills, including strong Microsoft office skills including PowerPoint and Excel
- Strong executive presence and proven ability to exercise the utmost discretion when handling confidential matters
- Prioritizing internal candidates with a consistent track record of influence and impact across the Blue Box
- Bonus if you are familiar with the VC ecosystem and understand the investment lifecycle
- Based in NY or SF
Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
