We’re hiring an early career investor

Adverb is an early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2023 by Jessica Verrilli and April Underwood. We back extraordinary founders building breakout, enduring companies. We’re looking for a full time investor to supercharge our investing efforts while contributing to the foundation of the firm.

What we do:

We invest in early stage companies, typically from pre-seed through Series A. From idea through product-market fit and beyond, we back founders who bring an insight about a market, an audience, or problem space combined with drive to fully realize their vision on the largest possible scale. We support those founders with our own hard earned experience and access to an exceptional network of leaders and builders across the industry. More about us can be found here.

What we’re looking for in an investor:

We're looking for someone with an insatiable curiosity about startups and technology, a passion for working with founders, a high standard of excellence in their work and unmatched hustle.

We're a small, collaborative, fast moving team so the right person will be ready and eager to contribute to all parts of the investing process and other firm needs. This will include researching trends, landscaping industries, sourcing and analyzing companies and drafting investment memos. The ideal candidate should understand the financial drivers and valuations of large companies and be quantitatively sharp. Equally important, they should be product savvy, adept at navigating the startup ecosystem and building relationships with founders.

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience, including 2+ years of investing in some manner (angel investing, VC investing, corporate investing).
• Must be comfortable with deal driven work, working on short timeline and delivering high-quality, insightful analysis as part of a team.
• Demonstrated ability to source, evaluate, and synthesize investment opportunities.

Responsibilities:

• Brings founder and operator networks which grow Adverb’s coverage of the market.
• Identifies individuals and companies early through market research and ecosystem involvement.
• Develops thesis about new technology trends and investment opportunities.
• Drives company diligence to qualify teams, markets, and understand risks.
• Drafts investment memos which help drive discussion within the team and memorialize the thesis and decisions made for each investment.
• Contributes to the firm’s data sets used to run the firm and deliver exceptional returns
• Maintains and reports upon financial analysis of portfolio companies as fund performance
• Contributes to investor (LP) communications
