Where we are headed
As we approach what is shaping up to be an oversubscribed final close of 11 Tribes Ventures Fund II, a $40M investment vehicle, we are ready to expand our team. It is a humbling and deeply energizing moment for us as we know this role will be foundational in accomplishing our goal of building a generational investment firm.
Over the past few years, there has been a necessary reckoning in the industry of venture capital where the traditional “growth at all costs” mindset has been rebuked and challenged (you’re welcome to read more about our thoughts on this topic here). As many funds reel and reposition, there is a massive opportunity of influence for any organization that is consistently authentic, humble, and focused to emerge as a market leader. We are eager to assume the privilege and burden of applying healthy pressure to redeem what is broken in venture capital and entrepreneurship; we are seeking another individual who is fiercely committed to side-stepping paths of least resistance to deliver outsized returns to investors through radical founder care.
About the role
Investment Associate
Good deals are the lifeblood of any investment firm, so firms must cultivate a field of magnetism in order to attract the greatest founders. What we have found is our thesis, anchored in founder resilience, has created a current of positive selection bias: the entrepreneurs we endeavor to find are in fact finding us.
The force of gravity around our thesis has resulted in an investment pipeline bursting at the seams. Consequently, we’re seeking an Investment Associate to scale the rigorous, thorough, and compassionate due diligence process that exists today.
Success will be measured first and foremost based on the quality of relationships built with founders in our pipeline. One KPI we use to measure this success is the number of referrals from founders we pass on. Beyond that, performance of the Investment Associate will be measured on their ability to source, diligence, and win deals that embody 11 Tribes investment mandate.
Key Skills will include:
- Strong interpersonal skills and relationally focused mindset
- Quantitative analysis of financial pro-forma
- Market research and competitive landscape analysis
- Deep curiosity and inquisitiveness to understand what non-obvious questions should 11 Tribes be asking
- Exceptional communication both internally as deals are socialized as well as externally to share the value proposition of our firm
- Brand ambassadorship - the associate, as with all members of our team, will be expected to share the values of the firm externally, helping to build 11 Tribes reputation
Note: these are skills that will be developed over time in this role, not necessarily fully developed from day one.
